THINGS THAT MAKE ME CRY

A man losing his job
The blood is oozing down his face and his eyes and lips are creased into a desperate expression. This morning he was been made redundant. In a small coastal town in Croatia. On a rainy December day with the constant news of global recession and frightening poverty.
The local construction company sacked all the builders. He went to his usual café – the one he comes to with his young daughter every Saturday morning. She has a juice and he has an espresso and reads the papers. He doesn’t drink, but he needed something stronger this morning. A few shots. To drown his sorrows and numb his feelings. The desperation just got worse and his head was exploding from anxiety and fear. He ran towards the glass door and started banging his head. The glass smashed and small pieces of glass entered his scalp. A couple of regulars tried to restrain him and the police was there in a matter of minutes.
His desperation made the headlines of the evening papers. In a society that has lost its own social responsibility towards injustice, pain and suffering.
